Vedic Astrology is completely based on Nakshatras. In fact predictions made on the basis of Nakshatras provide stunningly accurate results. Though there is argument on the origin of the term of Nakshatra, there are two widely accepted argument. Naks+Kshetra. ‘Naksh’ means sky in Sanskrit & ‘Kshetra’ means region in Sanskrit. Decoding the term ‘Nakshatra’:
NAksa+tara. Naksa means map in Sanskrit & Tara means Tara in Sanskrit. So the term nakshatra signifies mapping the stars. Either way, the term primarily signigies the method to divide the sky into regions. Now to understand how many regions we divide the sky & why that particular number is chosen, we have to look at our nearest neighbour Moon. The Moon is closely related & so closely that ancient stories refer the nakshatras as wives of the Moon. The Moon is the closest to the planet Earth among all the heavenly bodies and it has profound effect on life on earth. Hence, utmost importance is assigned to the Moon in Vedic Astrology.
Unravelling the concept of Abhijit Nakshatra:
The Moon takes approximately 27 days or 27.321661 days to be exact to complete it’s single revolution around the earth & it is called the side areal month.So we can round up the figure to 28 or round down to 27 & based on this fact we divide the sky into 27 or 28 nakshatras. The concept of 27 nakshatras in Vedic astrology is more common & prevalent while in the concept of 28 nakshatras, the Abhijit Nakshatra is included. Abhijit nakshatra is not a regular one, it is different from others.
So, the 27 nakshatras in Vedic astrology(divisions)signifies the motion of the Moon around the earth & the Moon traverses every division in one day-one day on a nakshatra. So the Moon and the Nakshatras act like a cosmic clock.
Unlocking the astrological significance of degrees of Nakshatras:
In Vedic Astrology, the whole sky is considered to be a platform of 360 degree. This whole platform is divided into 12 zodiac signs within 30 degree angles each. And within this 360 degree platform are placed also the 27 Nakshatras. Each zodiac sign has almost 2.25 nakshatras. At the time of the birth of a native, the zodiac sign in which the Moon is posited, is considered to be the Moonsign of that native and the nakshatra through which the Moon was traversing at that time is considered to be the nakshatra of the native. And that particular one indicates the state of the mind of the native.
That particular zodiac sign & the nakshatra forms the balance of the mind of the native. Every Zodiac sign has 30 degree & it is occupied by 2.25 nakshatras. Each has a degree of 12.25. In aries there are three nakshatras–Ashwini, Bharani & Krittika. TheCharanas of each of the nakshatras:
We have already understood that every zodiac signs are limited to 30 degrees in the 360 degree platform. Every zodiac sign possess almost 2.25 nakshatras. Every nakshatra has 13.20 degrees with 3.20 degree charana. That means every nakshatra has four charana. In Aries there are there nakshatras–Ashwini(0.00-13.20), Bharani(13.20-26.40), and krittika(26.40-30.00 dgree). So in aries falls all the four charanas of Ashwini, and bharani nakshatras. And there is one charana of Krittika. Though Ketu is the lordship planet of all the four charanas of Ashwini and Bharani, Sun is the lordship planet of all the charanas of Krittika nakshatra(though the first charana of krittika falls in aries and the last three charanas of krittika fall in Taurus. Hence every planet is the lord of three nakshtras( 9 planets own 27 nakshatras in vedic astrology).
Demystifying the Gandamool nakshatra:
If a baby is born in Ashiwini, Magha , Moola or Ashlesha, Jestha & Rebati, it is considered that the baby boy is born in ‘Moola or Ganda Molla nakshatra. Abd the lords of these nakshatras are either Ketu or Mercury. The most significant thing is that if the baby boy is born in the first charanas of Aswini, Magha, & Moola and the last charanas of Ashlesha, jestha and reabti, the natives tend to suffer a lot.
